Budget Dry Wine Pairing

This budget wine pairing is only $15 and can all be picked up with a quick trip to Aldi.

When I was the TA for the wine class grad school we always did a food pairing towards the end of the semester, and it was always my favorite class. Tasting and enjoying wine is all about learning what you like. I think it really highlights how much food changes your palate. That class really taught me that good wine can be made and enjoyed on a budget, and I live by the philosophy that if you like it then it’s good wine.

So, try these inexpensive wines paired with these cheap snacks and see what you like!

Pairings

Pinot Grigio, Lemon, Honey Goat Cheese and Baguette.

Pinot Grigio Pairing Really everything is good with everything else, but I like these flavors together. The best part about this pairing is the lemon. Take a sip of the wine, bite the lemon, and taste the wine again. I love how the flavor of the wine completely changes!

Chardonnay, Cheddar, and Cranberries

Dry Wine PairingThe fattiness and sharpness of the cheddar pairs really well with the dryness of the chardonnay. The tartness of the dried cranberries goes well too!

Cabernet Sauvignon, Dark Chocolate, and Beef

Cabernet PairingThe richness of the beef and the bitterness of the chocolate can really stand up to the strong flavors of the cab.

I recommend 1oz pours of each wine to start. Try a little of everything and find out what you like best! Eat, drink and enjoy!
