Grouper dogs are a fried fish sandwich on a hot dog bun. One of my favorite things to do growing up was to go to the Sailfish Marina on Thursday nights and get a grouper dog to eat on the dock. Here’s my homemade air fried take on their recipe all the way from Arkansas for only $2 per sandwich.
Some great side dish pairings include this homemade coleslaw or this cucumber salad.
This is the air fryer that I use at home.

Instructions
Grouper Dogs
- In a dish with a lip big enough to fit your pieces of fish mix 1/2 cup of the fish fry mix and 4 tablespoons of water. It should be the consistency of a thick paste.
- Put the rest of the fish fry mix on another plate for your breading/coating stations.
- Cut the grouper filet up into strips that will fit into your hot dog buns. I cut my filet into four pieces that were about 1.5"x6" or so.
- Dip one of the filet slices into the breading paste, making sure to coat the entire filet. Then dip the paste coated filet into the dry breading, coating each side.
- Spray all sides of the breaded filet with cooking spray and place in the air fryer basket. Repeat steps 4 & 5 until all filets are coated and in the air fryer basket.
- Air fry at 325F for 7 minutes or until the breading is crisp, slightly golden, and the fish flakes when broken.
- If desired toast the buns in the air fryer at 350F for 2 minutes.
- Serve each filet in a bun and drizzle with tarter sauce, remoulade, or lemon juice and enjoy!
Tarter Sauce
- Add the mayonnaise, stone ground mustard, and sweet relish to a small bowl. Stir to combine.
Spicy Remoulade
- Add the mayonnaise, ketchup, stone ground mustard, and sriracha to a small bowl. Stir to combine.

The Louisiana Fish Fry mix was a little too spicy for me. How can I tone it down?
